I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen. Not only because I see it, but because I see everything by it.

The Book of Mark, ch 1

I decided to study the book of Mark in the bible, I will blog my thoughts in a chapter by chapter day by day blogpost on the gospel. If anyone reading wants to study thru the book with me please feel free to do so and submit your thoughts! Jake

here are some of my thoughts on Mark 1...
v.21-21- the religious people in Capernaum were "amazed" (NLT) by Jesus' teachings, they were amazed because he was different. He spoke with authority. There was something about Jesus and his teaching that was much different than the teachers of the law, and the people responded greatly. speak truth.
v.44- After Jesus had healed the lame man, he told him to go into the town and show that he had been healed. He was told not to talk about it. This made me think of the effect it has when you recognize the change in someones life as opposed to when you hear that person talk about it.

People will notice that you are different if you are living in the Spirit. They only hear you have changed if you only talk about it, but they will be amazed when your life reflects a change. Becoming a christian WILL undoubtedly change you, but to reach people, lead by example and make that change appealing.

  2. So I started Mark a few weeks ago and have been working through it. Its a pretty spectacular look at who Jesus was and what faith looks like.

Here are my thoughts on Chapter 1:

I even love the beginning when John is introduced. That he was "a voice of one crying in the wilderness." He prepared peoples hearts for Christ coming to them. I think that is something I would love to do. Prepare people for the gift of grace, understanding that I am not a savior, but I know One is coming to their lives.

In verse 13, I think its crazy to think about Jesus being in the wilderness being tempted. I think we picture Him as this got it all together, walking in the streets and through markets, laying hands on people, and constantly pouring out truths. Which is in some ways an accurate picture. But I think its only one aspect of Jesus. This verse solidifies that Christ really was a man here on earth. That He wasn't immune to the temptations of Satan. The thing that is amazing about Him is that He overcame them.

In 35-45, I think its a direct calling to desolate places. We may not be welcomed in to courts of wealth or places of comfort. But we are to be lights in desolate places. Christ says "I may preach there also, for that is why I came."
